Compilers and Help Subsystem

VS 2005 uses the Microsoft C/C++, Intel C/C++ and Intel Fortran compilers. Both the login nodes and collaboratory machines have the Intel compilers integrated with VS 2005.

This integration adds two additional options to "Tools | Options...":

  • Intel (R) C++
  • Intel (R) Fortran

When a new C/C++ project is created or an existing one is added to a solution, the Microsoft compiler will be used to build it by defalut.

Help for the Microsoft C/C++ compiler (and the other .NET languages, e.g. C#, VB) can be obtained from a variety of options:

  • Index...

Help for the Intel C/C++ compiler is available from the Help Menu at

Compilers

VS 2005 uses the Microsoft C/C++, Intel C/C++ and Intel Fortran compilers. Both the login nodes and collaboratory machines have the Intel compilers integrated with VS 2005.

This integration adds two additional options to "Tools | Options...":

  • Intel (R) C++
  • Intel (R) Fortran

You can use these options to choose the include and library directories that will be used when one of these compilers is selected.

When a new C/C++ project is created or an existing one is added to a solution, the Microsoft compiler will be used to build it by default. To use the Intel C++ compiler instead, highlight the project in the Solution Explorer pane, right-click on it and select Convert to use Intel(R) C++ Project System, or go to the Project Menu and select Convert to use Intel(R) C++ Project System. After the conversion has been made, the Intel C++ compiler will be used for that project, but you can switch back to the Microsoft C++ compiler using either method outlined above, selecting Convert to use Visual C++ Project System.

Help

Help for these compilers is available from the Help Menu when you are in the VS 2005 IDE.
