Velocity Scheduler (vsched) is a batch queuing system that distributes jobs to a cluster of workstations
and/or to nodes of a multi-processor machine. The scheduler manages when and how a batch job is run based
on preferences set up by the user and system administrator(s). You can submit batch jobs and issue
queries using a few simple commands.
Prerequisites:
To use the batch system, you must have an account and know how to log in and use the login nodes, covered in the
Getting Started module. You must also have a compiled
program to run, covered in separate modules for
Windows and
Linux.
Terminology:
Before we begin, let's review a few vsched
terms.
